Yesterday(Sunday, November 9), we stopped by one of our favorite places on our walk home from church to get dessert and fresh bread. Check out the size of Knyanna's slice of cake, no she didn't eat it all, lol.
The ladies at Canastas are so friendly and we are developing a friendship with them. Can't wait till we know more Spanish to communicate more with them. Today I said, "Que tenga un buen dia."(Have a nice day.) and when we left, Chris said, "Did you see how happy that made them? They got big smiles." It not only made them happy, but opened up communication. They asked how long we will be here in Arequipa and we told them how long and what we are doing. At ICC missions training we were taught to build relationships with local vendors by frequenting their store, restaurant, shop, etc. It's been a neat blessing at Canastas to do just that. We always feel welcomed and cared for there. Their bread and pastries are delicious! And also their quiche. Yumm!! Chris and our teens like their mochas. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but the tea is good. I'm glad we've found this neat little shop and connected with the sweet ladies who own and run it.
We don't start language school until later this month, but getting out into the community has given us an opportunity to build relationships, practice the language, and get to know the culture. It's been great to have an opportunity to practice the little bit of Espanol we learned before we came to Peru and to understand more and more as we listen.
Awesome! Can't wait to be there with you guys for a bit!
