NEW YEAR UPDATE ON MINISTRIES IN RIOHACHA, COLOMBIA

So much happened in the year 2013. I can hardly believe that 2013 started off with Chris and I officially announcing that God was calling us to missions and going to a Discovery weekend in South Carolina to learn more about the organization, South America Mission, that God led us to partner with. And now here we are at the beginning of 2014 getting ready to go serve in Riohacha, Colombia. We are preparing to leave for a month long Intercultural Communications Course in NC on January 20th to receive training in how to interact with and relate the Gospel to a new and different culture effectively. We are hoping to go to language school in Costa Rica in April. We still have lots of monthly support to raise first though to support our ministry and living expenses. As we start off this new year we want to share with more and more people in churches, small groups, and homes what God is doing in Riohacha, Colombia; our heart and vision for the people and the city, and the opportunities for ministry there. We want to invite people to be a part of the ministries and work God is doing there by partnering with us financially and maybe even being part of a short-term or long-term team serving with us there. We see a field that is ripe for harvest, especially young people who are desperately in need of voices of truth, hope and love. An estimated 50% of the population in Riohacha is 25 years and younger. It's an amazing opportunity for our family to serve in youth and children's ministry there, ministries each of us have been involved in at various churches we have served in. Looking back, I can see that God has prepared us for this church planting ministry as we go to serve with this 2 year old church plant. We, along with our teens all have such a heart for youth and children and passion for ministries to them. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me." (Matthew 19:14) We want the children and youth of Riohacha, Colombia to know that they are welcome in God's family and that Jesus loves them so much. Healing and redemption can be brought to Colombia through the youth(teens and children) as they are reached with the Gospel of Christ and shown His love. We are very excited that God has called us to be a part of this work and excited for what 2014 has in store for us as we get closer to going and serving in Riohacha, Colombia.
