Just had to share this article and my thoughts on it -

A God Not Limited by Geography

This is a great article about the adjustment to culture when moving from overseas or even to overseas.  Much of it I can relate to even now, though it has been 5 years since my family moved from Japan back to the states.

I especially like this paragraph - "Like the times when I’ll start to bow politely {or “y”} to an elderly person, like we’d always do in Asia for a greeting, and then have to make like I’m  super-interested in something related to my shoe. Or the times when I just can’t seem to read the menus on the board fast enough and the line behind me grows longer, causing the lady at the cash register to politely huff.  There are moments when I’ll start to answer in Asian and catch myself, moments when I have to really concentrate to drive on the right side of the road,"

Oh, how familiar that is to me, :)  It's funny because now that I am trying to learn Spanish, I find myself mixing in not only English, but also German and Japanese because of our time spent in those countries with the military. Do I say, Thank you or Domo Arigato, or Danke Shun or Gracias?  My brain gets confused by it all, lol.  And here we are moving again overseas, this time with missions, instead of the military.  It will be even more different because we will not have access to the military base with it's American connections, but my favorite part of living in Germany was living off base and being immersed in the culture more.  So I am excited for this adventure as we move to Colombia; for the changes, for the sights and sounds, for meeting new people, and for the immersion into a new and different culture.  One thing's for sure...All this moving and experiencing new places and new cultures keeps life from ever getting boring or mundane.  And like this article says, God is not limited by Geography.  He is with us always in every circumstance using those circumstances and experiences to shape us into who He wants us to be whether it be overseas or here in the US, whether it be moving a lot or staying in one place. I'm excited for what God is going to teach me and show me on this new journey and for what He is going to teach and show each member of my family.  ~Cristi
